Crowdsourced specification guide task
Crowd-sourced specification guide
For this task, you will
work in small teams in your own time to put together a guide to what is
currently available for a particular level for a particular subject.
The
options are for the groups of three:
A level Media Studies (AQA, OCR,
WJEC)- Emma, Chris, Simone
GCSE Media Studies (AQA, OCR, WJEC)- Bex, Tammana, Rhocea
A level Film Studies (WJEC and OCR)- Rime, Danielle, Sonal
The
options for the pairs are:
GCSE Film Studies (WJEC)- Reece, David
BTEC and Cambridge Technicals in
Media (Level 2, Pearson and OCR)- Neil, Dan
You
will need to find the current specifications and examples of exam papers from
the exam board websites
What
you need to find out
What’s
on offer across the exam boards?
How
many students complete the course for each board each year?
What
are the differences between the specifications?
What
are the exams like?
What
is the coursework like?
What
philosophy seems to underlie each specification?
What
do teachers think of them?
What
do you see as the strengths and weaknesses of each?
Most
of this research can be done by looking online, but you may wish to contact
people for views- it’s up to you!
For GCSE and A level, you
will also need to find out what the implications are for the subject and level
as a result of the subject criteria proposals. These can be found here:
https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/further-gcse-and-a-level-content-for-teaching-from-september-2017 with a summary document
here:
You
might find these sites useful for general data:
There
is also a critique by David Buckingham on the MEA site from 2014:
You may collate and
present your findings in any way you wish- it could be a document for
circulation, a video, a PowerPoint/Keynote, a Prezi, a Wiki, a blogpost-
whatever you like! But it must be ready to share by 9am next Tuesday (29th)
and everyone in the group must contribute (roughly) equally.

Education island
Each student had to draw an island which represented some aspect of their educational experience- it could be a snapshot of a moment, such as 16-19, the whole thing or whatever. We then discussed how they had drawn out their experiences and reflected on some lessons learned for future practice

Media Identity Task
MY
MEDIA IDENTITY
By Wednesday 23rd, prepare something about
your ‘media identity’. You can use any form you wish and it doesn’t need to be
fancy or professional!
It might be:
A mixtape of music or sounds that matter to
you
A collage of media images which in some way
contributes to your identity
A mashup video of film, tv or online material that expresses
something about you
Or anything else!
Upload it or link it to the blog.
Be prepared to talk about it on Wednesday
23rd in the afternoon.
